Flag State Inspections are checks carried out by the maritime authorities of the country where a ship is registered. The aim is to verify that the ship complies with international and national regulations regarding safety, environmental protection and crew working conditions.

These inspections include checking the documentation, structural and operational conditions of the vessel and safety equipment. If irregularities are found, fines or even detention of the vessel may be imposed until the non-conformities are resolved.
